KNOW YOUR TYRES
The most obvious place to find your Tyre specifications is the Tyre itself however when buying second hand cars you cannot guarantee the correct Tyre is fitted so it may be a good idea to check either the vehicle Tyre placard which is commonly found in the glove box, drivers side door frame or under the bonnet or your owners manual
Ideally you should buy four Tyres at a time, this is so you get consistent performance across the vehicle. Never buy just one new Tyre as there will be differing grip levels across the axle

TYRE MAINTENENCE
Tyre pressure should be checked every month as all Tyres loose a bit of pressure over time and an underinflated Tyre is more likely to blow out. The ideal minimum pressure can be found on the Tyre placard
It is important to have a wheel alignment done on your vehicle when the tyres are changed or rotated this will ensure that the wheels are aligned as designed providing the best handling and performance for your vehicle

SPEED RATING MATTERS
You should always buy a tyre with the appropriate speed rating for your vehicle. If you don’t, be aware that you’re limiting your vehicle’s performance in terms of handling and speed capacity.
If you use a lower speed rated tyre than the original design you will likely compromise your handling, speed and safety. Conversely, you can improve your car’s handling by choosing a higher speed rated tyre

BUY THE BEST QUALITY YOU CAN AFFORD
The cost of tyres can be daunting but they are are crucial to your vehicle safety so you should endeavor to purchase the best quality Tyre you can.
Try and calculate the total price for your tyre purchase and divide that by the kilometres of service. This will give you the cost per kilometre. You’ll quickly see that the better tyres are better value after all.
When it comes to deciding on a brand note the temperature and traction rating these are standardised and therefore the best way for you to make a fair comparison.
